About Is My Bill High?

Upload a bill, see how it compares, find out if you can do better

What This Is

Most people have no idea whether their bills are reasonable or not. You pay what you pay because that's what the bill says, and you don't have an easy way to check.

Is My Bill High? collects real bill data from real people and shows you where yours sits compared to others in your area with similar usage. It's a simple idea: if enough people share their bills, everyone gets a clearer picture of what a fair price looks like.

Decide What to Do

If your bill is high, you'll know. What you do with that information is up to you.

Why This Is Hard to Do on Your Own

You can't compare what you can't see. Your provider knows what every customer pays. You only know what you pay. That makes it very hard to tell if you're getting a fair deal or not.

Bills are complicated on purpose. Between supply charges, usage rates, discounts, concessions, and fees, most bills are hard to compare even if you had someone else's bill sitting next to yours.

Switching feels like a hassle. Even if you suspect you're overpaying, the effort of researching alternatives usually wins. Most people just pay the bill and move on. We think that changes when you can see the actual number — how your monthly cost stacks up against people like you, in your area.

Works Anywhere

You can upload a bill from any country. We detect your currency and region automatically, and compare your bill against others nearby. In areas where we have lots of data, the comparisons are very precise. In areas where we're just getting started, they're broader — but still useful.

We also publish a Global Price Index that ranks 30+ countries by household bill costs, combining crowdsourced bills with official data from national regulators and international agencies. You can see how much people pay in different countries — in raw terms, adjusted for purchasing power, or as a share of income.

Where We're At

We're early. The service works and comparisons are live, but the quality of those comparisons depends directly on how many bills we have from your area. Some regions have strong coverage already. Others are thin.

This is a crowdsourced service, so it literally gets better with every bill uploaded. If your comparison feels limited right now, it means your area needs more data — and your bill is the one that helps fix that.

How Is This Service Free?

Fair question. Here's the honest answer: our interests are aligned with yours.

Every bill you upload gives you an immediate comparison against what others are paying. That's the value you get straight away. But each bill also adds to a growing dataset of what people actually pay for essential services — and that dataset is what makes this business work.

Here's how we plan to make money:

  • 1.Better deals for you. If we can see you're overpaying, we can connect you with providers offering a better price. If you switch, the provider pays us a referral fee. You save money, we earn a commission. Straightforward.
  • 2.Aggregated data licensing. A large enough dataset of real billing data — anonymised and aggregated — is genuinely valuable to energy companies, regulators, researchers, and consumer groups. No individual bills are ever shared. Just the big picture.

Neither of these works without scale, and scale only comes from people uploading their bills. So the logic is simple: the more you trust us with your bills, the better we can serve you back — and the more viable this service becomes.

We'd rather be upfront about this than pretend the service runs on goodwill. If you have thoughts or ideas, we're all ears: hello@ismybillhigh.com

What Happens to Your Data

  • checkmarkYour PDF is processed to extract bill details, then deleted. We don't keep your original file.
  • checkmarkPersonal details like names and account numbers are automatically stripped out.
  • checkmarkWe store the extracted numbers (amount, usage, provider, region) for comparisons. No individual bill is ever shared or made public.
  • checkmarkAggregated statistics (averages, percentiles by region) may be licensed to third parties. This is always anonymous — no one can trace it back to you.
  • checkmarkYou can use the service without creating an account.
